Harmonie Deschamps : Singing, artistic director
Pierre Cussac : Accordion, singing, composition, arrangements
In the program Little Italy, soprano Harmonie Deschamps and accordionist Pierre Cussac pay tribute to Italians who emigrated to France and the United States from the late 19th to the mid-20th century.
The duo highlights the influence of the Bel Paese on French and American culture through a program that celebrates opera, song, operetta, musette, and madrigal.
Italy has inspired poets, musicians, and artists across time and borders. With nostalgia, sensitivity, and humor, the musicians playfully revisits bel canto and verismo opera, 17th-century madrigals, and Neapolitan, French, and American songs in original and unique arrangements.
This program gives free rein to the accordionist’s improvisational talent, while the instrument's rich palette evokes everything from organ to full orchestra. In this way, the arias by Rossini, Verdi, and Puccini, as well as the canzoni by Monteverdi, Strozzi, and Frescobaldi, resonate alongside Italian popular songs.
