When they love you like that...

This program brings together gems of the French Art Song and German Lied repertoires, alongside iconic Chansons Réalistes by Yvette Guilbert and Marie Dubas.

It transports audiences into the realist and expressionist worlds of Parisian cabarets and café-concerts of the Belle Époque.

This program evokes the joys and sorrows of women from Paris’s backstreets, foreshadowing a century of upheaval and newfound freedoms.

​

This unique trio—voice, piano, and accordion—reimagines this repertoire, paying homage to the cursed muses of the cabarets.

​

Through this performance, we get a glimpse into women’s lives: lovers, mischief-makers, blazing and perceptive, committed, whimsical, imaginative—but also oppressed, scorned, and crushed by a society that denied them freedom and dignity.
